Incidental Transportation
and Running Errands
Helping seniors get
out into the community and helping them with needed errands,
these are some of the goals for Advantage Home Care. Many
seniors have lost the ability to drive an automobile, leading
to the loss of independence and the need to become dependent
on family, friends, neighbors as well as private and public
transportation providers.
Advantage Home Care Caregivers
will:
- Run all kinds of errands, pick up
prescriptions, dry cleaning, or supplies for social
events
- Take seniors in their vehicles to
the grocery story, the shopping mall, visits with friends,
restaurants, movie theaters or any other desired activities
- Accompany seniors to medical appointments,
transporting them and if appropriate, taking notes and
sharing information with the physician
- Through our Welcome Home Program
pick up our clients when they are released from the
hospital, take them home and spend six hours with them
to get settled. The caregiver will make them comfortable,
clean up their home, change their linens, go food shopping
and cook a meal all for a fixed price of $149.00*.
All caregivers are required to have safe
driving records and comprehensive liability insurance
policies on their vehicles. In addition, their insurance
is supplemented by a blanket liability policy maintained
by the company. Clients who still have their own cars
can also request their caregivers to drive their (the
clients) vehicles when providing transportation
so long as the client has liability insurance on their
own vehicle.
When a caregiver provides transportation
for a client, the senior is charged the going mileage
reimbursement rate recommended by the federal government.
On January 1, 2009 this rate was $.525 per mile although
it varies from year to year based upon inflation and the
fluctuating cost of gasoline. Advantage Home care passes
the entire mileage charge to the caregiver. Should our
client have an insured vehicle and prefer our caregivers
to drive that vehicle there is no charge to the client.
This service allows our clients to maintain
their independence and benefit by continuing to be socially
active in their communities. The importance of social
activity is extremely important to the overall well the
elderly. Too often the challenges of aging, declining
health and the ability to drive force senior citizens
to become isolated and there is a tendency to eliminate
activities that were once a cause for engagement and healthy
contact with others. Advantage Home Care caregivers understand
the need for our clients to participate in activities
in the community and facilitate this continued contact
whenever possible.
* the Welcome Home package may also include
a mileage charge for all if mileage from the hospital
to the client’s home exceeds 20 miles.
